Seal-coat of various streets scheduled for July 23

July 17th, 2018 by News Tribune in Local News

Jefferson City has contracted with Musselman and Hall Contractors to seal-coat various streets as part of its annual street maintenance program, according to a city news release.

The streets affected include:

  • McCarty Street from Chestnut Street to Locust Street, Lafayette Street to Chestnut Street, Locust Street to Clark Avenue and Bolivar Street to the U.S. 54 on-ramp
  • St. Louis Road
  • Jefferson Street from Capitol Avenue to High Street, High Street to McCarty Street and McCarty Street to Whitton Expressway
  • Air View Drive from Southern Air Drive to Royal Air Drive
  • Belair Drive from Hillsdale Drive to Twin Hill Drive and Main Street to Hillsdale Drive
  • Fox Creek Road from West Schellridge Drive to the street's end
  • West Main Street from Jaycee Drive to Missouri 179
  • Schellridge Road from Country Club Drive to Jaycee Drive
  • West Schellridge Drive from Schellridge Road to Fox Creek Road
  • Southern Air Drive from Belair Drive to Eastern Air Drive
  • Satinwood Drive from Stadium Boulevard to Cedar Brooke Drive
  • Vieth Drive from Cedar Brook Drive to Oakridge Drive
  • Williams Street from Dix Road to St. Mary's Boulevard
  • 800 block Lafayette Street
  • Tanner Bridge Road from Ellis Boulevard to Christy Drive.

The seal-coat process includes applying two coats of specialty oils to the pavement surface to seal cracks and extend the life of the pavement. Once applied, the oils will need to cure prior to traffic being returned to the area. The application and cure process is estimated to take one to three hours depending on weather conditions.

When working in residential areas, the contractor will close sections of streets to all traffic as the seal is applied. Residents will be notified prior to the day the work is planned on their street.

When working in commercial areas and/or on arterial streets, the contractor will conduct lane closures and traffic flagging operations during the sealing process.

The project is scheduled to begin July 23. It is estimated all work areas will be completed in two weeks, weather permitting.
