Friday night accident blocks Expressway

One eastbound lane of U.S. 50/63 was blocked for about 90 minutes Friday, after a trailer broke away from the van that was hauling it.

Jefferson City Police said Brian K. Jenkins, 37, of Holts Summit, was eastbound on the Expressway when his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado hit a bump, causing the trailer to separate from the Silverado.

The trailer went off the right side of the highway and overturned, scattering debris across the road and blocking the driving lane.

Jenkins and the other four people in the Silverado were using seat belts, and none were injured.

The accident occurred at 6:08 p.m. Friday, in the 1500 block of the highway.

Separately on Friday, two people were injured in other Mid-Missouri traffic accidents.

Arthur L. Strickland, 45, of Fulton, told officers he would seek his own treatment, after he was hit about 11 p.m. Friday, while directing traffic on U.S. 50 in Osage County.

The accident happened about 10 feet west of the Route CC intersection east of Linn — near the Osage County Fairgrounds and State Technical College.

The Highway Patrol said Allen E. Cherry, 50, of Linn, was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado east on U.S. 50, and said he didn’t see Strickland standing in the highway.

Cherry was not using a seatbelt, the patrol reported.

Earlier Friday, Patrice B. Blumeyer, 67, of St. Louis, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries after her 2018 Lexus GX-460 ran off the right side of U.S. 54 and hit several trees.

The accident happened at 4:30 p.m. Friday, almost a mile east of the Missouri 17 interchange.

Blumeyer was using her seat belt, investigators said.
