Bryan Thomsen, superintendent of North Callaway R-1 Schools, announced his resignation, effective June 30, last week.

Thomsen said he has accepted the superintendent's position with the Oak Grove R-6 School District, just east of Kansas City, for the 2018-19 school year.

"He's going to be a hard man to replace," school board member Scott Starkey said. "He will be staying through the end of the school year, so that will be quite helpful."

Thomsen told school board members the district gave him opportunities to learn and grow professionally and personally.

"The district has been a great place for Brandi and I to raise our children, and we cannot thank the entire district enough for your support over the last nine years," he said. "It was a tough decision, but ultimately it was the opportunity to be closer to our families. The North Callaway School District has provided us with many wonderful opportunities, great friends and memories that we will take with us."

Thomsen joined the district as superintendent on July 1, 2009. He was previously Nevada High School's principal. His wife, Brandi, is a softball coach with the district, and their son participates in sports, according to Starkey.

"He's our starting quarterback," Starkey said.

The North Callaway Board will begin the process of finding a replacement for the position immediately.
