Intoxication suspected in Thursday crash in Jefferson City

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in a one-vehicle accident that injured two people Thursday night in Jefferson City.

The crash happened just after 7:30 p.m. in the 800 block of Belair Drive, according to Jefferson City Police Department reports.

Gary Gieck Jr., 38, of Jefferson City, was going south on Belair when he lost control of his vehicle and began sliding sideways. He ran off the left side of the street and struck a tree on the passenger side of his vehicle.

Gieck and his passenger, Jonathan Cooper, 26, of Jefferson City, had to be extricated from the vehicle. Neither man was wearing a seat belt.

Gieck was treated for moderate injuries, while Cooper was taken to a hospital in Columbia for treatment of serious injuries.
