Saturday house fire damages Cole County home

The cause for a Saturday night house fire in Cole County is listed as undetermined.

Crews were called for smoke in a structure at 11 p.m. at 2400 Dogwood Bluff Drive, according to reports from the Cole County Fire Protection District.

The family reported their smoke alarms were sounding and the home was filling with smoke. The family left the home safely before the first fire units arrived.

During the fire, a firefighter rescued a cat from the structure. Members of the Cole County Ambulance Service administered oxygen to the cat, and it was reported to be doing well Sunday afternoon.

The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, but fire crews were on the scene until 3 a.m as the structure suffered heavy fire, smoke and water damage.

The American Red Cross was called to assist the family.
