Central Missouri Newspapers staff receives 6 awards

Central Missouri Newspapers won three first-place awards and three second-place awards in the Missouri Associated Press Media Editors news writing and photography contest.

News Tribune sports reporter Jason Strickland won first place in sports photography for a photograph which captured Jefferson City High School baseball players celebrating their state title.

News Tribune reporter Phillip Sitter won two headline-writing awards for stories he wrote. He was recognized for the headlines "The watch comes off" and "Show-Me Sunshine."

Fulton Sun reporter Helen Wilbers won first place in public interest or in-depth reporting for stories she wrote about Carl DeBrodie, a Fulton group home resident who was reported missing and whose body later was found encased in concrete in a storage unit.

News Tribune opinion page editor Gerry Tritz won second place for his editorial titled "Greitens political maneuvers an insult to Missourians."

The News Tribune was awarded second place in the best website category.
