Finalists in the search for Lincoln University's next president will visit the campus Feb. 21-22.

Presidential Search Committee Co-Chair Winston Rutledge announced the schedule during Thursday's Board of Curators meeting.

However, Rutledge said, the number and names of the finalists have not yet been determined, and additional dates may have to be added.

The campus visits include a luncheon with curators.

Rutledge said the visits essentially will be the candidates' job interviews with the board and therefore will be closed to the public.

But, Rutledge said, the board may not make its decision until early March.

He hopes the new president can be announced by the time Lincoln holds its 16th annual President's Gala later this spring.

The candidates are seeking to succeed Kevin Rome, who left Lincoln last June - after serving four years as president - to become the new president of Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Mike Middleton, a former University of Missouri Law School professor and administrator, has been serving as Lincoln's interim president since last June and has said he's not a candidate for the permanent position.

LU hired the Boston-based Isaacson, Miller consulting firm to manage the search, and the committee spent two days in St. Louis last month interviewing some of the candidates.

The schedule both days for the finalists' visits to Jefferson City:

7:30-9 a.m. - General public session to hear from the candidates and ask questions during a breakfast hosted by the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce in the Presidential Suite at The LINC wellness center.

9:30-10:30 a.m. - Meeting with faculty, staff, professors emeriti and LU retirees, Scruggs University Center Ballroom.
