Trials in DeBrodie case continued to next week

Trials for two women charged with crimes in connection with the death of a disabled man have been continued.

Jury trials for Sherry Paulo and Mary Paulo have now been set for Dec. 24 in Callaway County.

Sherry Paulo is charged with involuntary manslaughter, neglect, abandonment of a corpse and two misdemeanor counts of making a false report of a missing person.

Mary Paulo faces a misdemeanor charge of making a false report of a missing person.

Carl DeBrodie was reported missing in 2017. Five people were arrested June 5 after being indicted by grand jury in late March. Each defendant was employed by Second Chance Homes of Fulton, where DeBrodie lived prior to his death.

DeBrodie was 31 years old when his remains were found dumped in a Fulton storage unit April 24, 2017, about a week after he was reported missing. He was a developmentally disabled resident of Second Chance Homes, a care facility at 298 Claymine Drive in Fulton tasked with and paid to give him a home.

Earlier this month, a federal judge approved a settlement in a civil case brought by his mother, Carolyn Summers.
