A Jefferson City man has been charged with assaulting two police officers early Monday morning.

Jordan Pruitt, 21, is charged with two counts of third-degree assault and one count of resisting arrest.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows officers were investigating a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of North Ventura.

Pruitt admitted to officers he had destroyed furniture in the living room of the residence, overturned a table and ripped a banister from a wall during an argument.

As officers were continuing their investigation, Pruitt attempted to flee the residence. Officers tried to stop him, but Pruitt struck the officers multiple times with his fists. He allegedly bit one officer's hand, causing the officer to need outpatient medical care, and he broke a tooth of another officer.

The victim told officers Pruitt was upset at losing his job and said he had used narcotics prior to the altercation.
