Expo to connect black entrepreneurs in Jefferson City

An all-day event scheduled for next week is intended to assist black entrepreneurs in their ventures, help them with networking and raise money for a new urban nonprofit organization.

The Mid-Mo Black Expo is modeled after events Alicia Edwards has seen in larger urban communities, she said. Edwards, the owner of Alicia Edwards Productions, said she has about a dozen vendors signed up for the Aug. 11 expo.

The Jefferson City native said she's seen many shows that included community involvement and incorporated black entrepreneurs and business owners.

The event is intended to help unify Jefferson City's black neighborhoods, she said.

"We see who you are and you see what needs you can meet in the community," Edwards said. "We can network, and grow together and be together."

The expo is 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 11 at Savanna's Restaurant, 418 W. Elm St. Tickets are $25. VIP tickets, which provide access to the "After Party," are $40. For more information, email Edwards at [email protected].
