Cause for Jefferson City house fire under investigation

Authorities on Saturday were still trying to determine the cause for a house fire Friday night in Jefferson City.

According to fire department reports, firefighters were called to got to a structure fire just after 11 p.m. in the 100 block of East Ashley Street.

First arriving fire crews found heavy flames showing from the front of the two story single family residence. It's believed the fire may have started in the area of the front porch and spread from there.

Two adults had gotten out of the residence by the time firefighters got on the scene. A pet dog did not survive the fire.

The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced residents with any needs they may have.

The State Fire Marshal's Office was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
