No charges filed yet after Tuesday chase in Jefferson City

An investigation continued Wednesday after two people were caught Tuesday afternoon following a chase through Jefferson City and ending in southern Cole County.

The names of the man and woman involved in the chase vehicle were not released as they face potential charges of theft of a motor vehicle, assault, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and numerous traffic offenses.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers were dispatched to a call from a citizen regarding a stolen motor vehicle near Missouri Boulevard and Stadium Boulevard, according to police reports. The vehicle had been stolen Tuesday morning at a convenience store in Columbia after the driver left the vehicle running to go inside the store. A citizen also reported the stolen vehicle had rammed into the side of his car.

Responding officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 2500 block of Missouri Boulevard, but the vehicle failed to stop and the pursuit ensued.

The vehicle went east on Missouri, then south on Southwest Boulevard, and eventually south onto Route C and outside city limits.

The pursuit continued until the vehicle got to the intersection of Meadows Ford Road and Route C, where the female driver attempted to exit the road and crashed into a rock embankment.

The man and woman in the vehicle were taken by emergency medical personnel from the scene. The woman sustained serious injuries and was airlifted for further treatment, while the man was released from the hospital after treatment and taken into custody for an outstanding felony warrant for absconding on previous charges.
