Next month Jefferson City will have a new city clerk.

During a brief closed session at Monday night's City Council meeting, council members voted to hire Emily Donaldson as a deputy city clerk who will become city clerk when Phyllis Powell retires sometime after Nov. 1.

Powell was city clerk from 1982-86, then returned to the position in 1993 and has been there since.

Donaldson has been an administrative assistant for the Joint Committee on Legislative Research at the State Capitol since April 2005. Among the duties she was responsible for were scheduling, coordinating and taking minutes of committee meetings as well as processing accounts payables and receivables. From 2001 to 2005 she was an administrative assistant for Legislative Oversight.
