Post Office again handling area 'Letters to Santa'

Do you have a special letter you want to be sure Santa Claus reads before Christmas Eve?

Get it to the Post Office by Dec. 11, and the Jefferson City Postal Service staff will help make sure Santa sends a reply.

The address is Santa, in care of the Postmaster, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.

The "Letters to Santa" program also gets an assist from Jefferson City's Downtown Association.

During Friday night's Living Windows event, from 6-9 p.m., children can write their letters and drop them in a special mailbox.

"This is the second year that the Post Office has been kind enough to let us use the mailbox, which we decorate," said Tricia Workman, who chairs the association's Living Windows program.

"Then we have paper and envelopes and markers for kids to use and write letters to Santa - then we deliver them to the Post Office and they get them to Santa and Santa responds."

The Living Windows letter-writing place is in the middle of High Street, just east of Jefferson Street, Workman said.

"If the weather is good, we're expecting hundreds of children," she said. "So we have lots of paper and markers and good volunteer groups that are helping the kids write the letters."

One requirement is that the children include their return addresses on the letters and envelopes - or Santa won't be able to respond, Workman and Drone emphasized.

That rule also applies to children who don't go to Living Windows but want to send Santa a letter anyway.
