A donation today could be the gift that keeps giving, as nonprofits nationwide seek donations on Giving Tuesday.

This year, Missouri River Regional Library is asking the community to help raise $10,000 to purchase 3-D printers, Chromebooks and install wireless printing capability.

MRRL Director Claudia Cook said she recognizes there are a lot of organizations worth giving to, but library services have the potential to assist everyone in the community.

"It's here for the community and provides a range of services for all ages. Any funding we receive has the potential to assist any community member in need," Cook said. "We're hoping to exceed last year's goal of $6,400."

Central Bank has partnered with the library, matching $1,500 when the MRRL reaches $3,000 in contributions.

Last year, the library's focus was on renovating the teen zone and purchasing a new style of shelving in the children's department.

As a result of the community's generosity, the teen zone has been updated with new furniture, and new bins for shelving in the children's department are in the process of being ordered, she said.

If any money is left after improving the technology hub, MRRL also plans to purchase more wireless hotspots, a service added in July to allow patrons to check out hotspots for up to three weeks, Cook said.

Kathlene Woodruff, president of the Missouri River Regional Library Foundation, described Giving Tuesday as a continuation of the season of giving and helping others.

"Support financially is important to us, because the library opens up numerous opportunities of access to all," Woodruff said. "We look to help donating on Giving Tuesday as fun and as simple with a couple of clicks online."

Community members can donate by bringing a check to the library or visiting mrrl.org/support-your-library.
