The deaths of an engaged couple in Ashland last week have been ruled as a murder-suicide following autopsies by the Boone County medical examiner and an investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Department.
Ashland police officers and Boone County deputies responded to a residence around midnight in the 500 block of Nickman Road after 911 reports of gunshots Nov. 2. Upon arrival, officers and deputies found the bodies of Travis J. Parker, 42, and Jessica Willits, 36. Both sustained gunshot wounds.
The investigation determined Parker shot Willits before taking his own life.
The couple moved to Ashland in July.
Willits was shot twice in the chest with a rifle. Parker suffered a single shot to the head with the same weapon.
