A Mexico man faces eight felony offense charges following a Monday arrest, according to Lt. Curtis Hall, of the Callaway County Sheriff's Office.

At 1:01 a.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle on County Road 262, west of Auxvasse. A deputy located the vehicle and contacted the driver, Aramis Curtis, 27. Hall said while speaking to Curtis, the officer spotted signs of criminal activity. He detained Curtis and requested backup.

While additional deputies investigated, Curtis escaped and ran into a wooded area, Hall said. Deputies set up a perimeter and called in the office's K-9 unit.

K-9 Officer Iro successfully tracked Curtis through woods, creeks and into a field, eventually locating him hiding in brush, Hall said. Curtis was taken back into custody and transported to the Callaway County Jail.

According to Hall, deputies searched Curtis's vehicle and found two loaded pistols, one of which was stolen, suspected crack cocaine, methamphetamine, marijuana and other drug paraphernalia used in the sale and distribution of a controlled substance.

The Callaway County prosecuting attorney charged Curtis with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of delivery of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana (11-35 grams), attempted escape from custody while under arrest for a felony, and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon - subsection 11, possession of a weapon and a felony controlled substance.

Curtis's bond was set at $50,000, cash only.
