Memorial Day is Monday, May 29, with some area communities holding activities during the three-day weekend.

California's observance will be held at 10 a.m. at the grave of John A. Dorn, in the Catholic Cemetery. The event will be a joint event between VFW Post 4345 and California Masonic edge 183. The public is invited to attend this ceremony recognizing the service of those men and women who have served the nation.

There will be two Memorial Day observances in Tipton. The first is a Monday Mass at St. Andrew's Cemetery, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Members of Edgar Cole American Legion Post 304 will raise the flag, then lower it to half-mast. "Taps" will then be played. The second observance is at 10 a.m., at the Veteran's Memorial at the Tipton City park. Veteran and retired attorney Ralph Gaw will speak. There will be a salute of three volleys followed by "Taps."

The High Point Memorial Day service with a speaker will be Sunday, May 28, at the High Point Cemetery, beginning at 2 p.m. In case of rain, the event will be at High Point Baptist Church.
