Columbia teen charged as adult in fatal shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - A judge has ruled a 17-year-old Columbia resident will face murder and drug charges as an adult in a fatal shooting.

Navarro Scott was charged Monday with second-degree murder and distribution of a controlled substance. He's expected to be moved from the Juvenile Justice Center to the Boone County Jail.

County Chief Juvenile Officer supports Scott's adult trial, saying his age and the seriousness of the charges make it unclear whether the Division of Youth Services would effectively rehabilitate him. She also said the witnesses' testimony about his maturity level shows he should be tried as an adult.

Scott was arrested Dec. 22 after allegedly fatally shooting Keith Chambers, who attempted to steal marijuana Scott was trying to sell. Scott shot Chambers after the man shot Scott's dealing partner.
