Jefferson City man gets 25 years for sex crime with child

A Jefferson City man was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison after a Cole County jury found him guilty on two counts in a sex crime case involving incidents that occurred between May 1 and mid-July 2015.

Maurice Hogan, 35, was found guilty of one count of first-degree child molestation and one count of sexual misconduct involving a child. The jury found him not guilty of first-degree statutory rape and two counts of child molestation.

The trial took place last month.

Court records show the victim was 7 years old, and Hogan exposed his genitals to her. The victim also disclosed in an interview that Hogan had sex with her while her mother was at work.

The victim said Hogan told her she would face repercussions if she told her mother what happened.

When interviewed by authorities, Hogan denied having sexual relations with the girl but did admit to touching her genital area.
