A policy banning all concealed guns on campuses of Daniel Boone Regional Library branches - including Fulton's - has been revised by the system's board of trustees.
On Thursday, a new policy was agreed to at a trustees' meeting. Concealed guns are only allowed to be carried on library property by those holding concealed carry permits.
However, because library branches in Columbia and Ashland are within 1,000 feet of schools, people who carry concealed guns without permits may face federal charges.
State law does allow legal CCW permit holders to bring concealed weapons into libraries.
Patrons at the Callaway County branch in Fulton have not commented on the new policy, which is posted on the facility's front door.
"I haven't heard anything from the patrons," Greg Reeves, Fulton branch manager, said on Saturday. "The state law states that people with concealed carry permits can carry (guns in public facilities) with some exceptions, and we're not one of those named entities."
