UPDATED: Suspect identified after Jefferson City man fatally stabbed

The suspect in a Tuesday night disturbance in which a Jefferson City man was fatally stabbed, will be charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action Wednesday after being taken into custody following the incident.

Michael Phillips, 52, of Jefferson City, is being held at the Cole County Jail pending formal charges, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release.

The weapon alleged to have been used by Phillips was located and secured as evidence.

Officers responded around 7:15 p.m. to Dulle-Hamilton Towers at 12 Jackson St., where they discovered Michael Taylor, the 46-year-old victim, suffering from stab wounds. He was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, where he later died.

Detectives reported the victim and suspect were at 12 Jackson St. to visit acquaintances. During that visit, an altercation between the two escalated and Phillips allegedly stabbed Taylor.

A suspect was arrested Tuesday night following a disturbance in which a Jefferson City man was fatally stabbed.

Officers took the male suspect into custody without incident at the scene. Detectives reported the victim and suspect were at 12 Jackson to visit acquaintances. During that visit, an altercation between the two escalated and the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim.

The suspect is being held in the Cole County Jail pending the outcome of the investigation and any charges by the Cole County prosecutor. The names of the suspect and victim were not immediately released.
