Several injured in Monday wrecks

Three people were hurt in a one-vehicle crash Monday afternoon in Maries County.

Patrol reports show the crash occurred 6 miles north of Vienna on U.S. 63 at County Road 209 around 2:24 p.m.

Brittany Jones, 17, of Meta, failed to negotiate a curve on the wet roadway, lost control of her vehicle, went off the left side of the road and struck a ditch before overturning.

Jones and a passenger, Taner Helton, 19, Vienna, were not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. Both were treated for serious injuries. Another passenger, Ruth Sumner, 19, of Dixon, was wearing a seat belt and was treated for moderate injuries.

Two people were hurt in a two-car crash in Morgan County about 2:15 p.m. Monday.

Gail Lewis, 65, of Florence, made a left turn in a 2003 Toyota Corolla as she was traveling westbound on U.S. 50 at Route D, pulling into the path of an eastbound 2007 Kia Optima driven by Suzanne Young, 20, of Pleasant Hill.

The Kia struck the Toyota nearly head-on. Young was seriously injured, and Lewis moderately. Both women were wearing seat belts, and both were taken by ambulance to Bothwell Hospital in Sedalia. Both vehicles were totaled.

A man from Clark suffered minor injuries in Boone County when his motorcycle was forced off the road by another vehicle at about 3:35 p.m.

Gabriel Gilpin, 44, was riding a 2007 Harley Davidson Road King southbound on Route F, 2.5 miles north of Stidham Road, when an unknown vehicle forced him off the road.

Gilpin's bike went off the right side of the road before coming to rest on its side.

Gilpin was taken by ambulance to Boone Hospital in Columbia for minor injuries, and his bike sustained minor damage. He was wearing a helmet.
