Man faces domestic assault, weapons charges

Cole County prosecutors charged Paul W. High, 41, with second-degree domestic assault, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and one count of armed criminal action, after a Saturday night incident in Jefferson City.

In a probable cause statement, Jefferson City police said High had an argument with a woman he "has had a romantic relationship with," and he pointed a 9mm Ruger at her head during the argument after she had kicked him in the groin.

Then, police said, High went outside "and fired two rounds from his Ruger pistol into the ground."

Police said two 9mm shell casings were recovered.

The police report said the victim - who wasn't named - told them she hit High in the face and shoved him - but only after he held the gun to her head.

Bond was set at $25,000.
