3 face drug charges in Moniteau County

Moniteau County deputies arrested three people after three separate drug-related incidents over the weekend.

A Columbia man was arrested on a drug charge Friday after a traffic stop in California.

Moniteau County Sheriff's Office deputies stopped a vehicle driven by Cody D. Stone, 30, on Linda Lane in California in connection with an assault that had occurred earlier on West Street, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

Stone denied deputies' request to search his vehicle. Deputies called K-9 Mizzou to the scene, which resulted in recovery of methamphetamine from the vehicle.

Charged with possession of a controlled substance, Stone was taken to the Moniteau County Jail, with bond set at $25,000.

Also Friday, a Clarksburg man was arrested near California on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance.

Deputies observed Daniel K. Purnell, 34, walking along Missouri 87 while investigating a motor vehicle crash. The deputies took Purnell into custody after learning he had an active warrant for his arrest out of California.

Upon search of Purnell, deputies discovered and seized methamphetamine. After transporting him to the Moniteau County Jail, officials discovered more methamphetamine as well as marijuana on his person.

Purnell is charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of a controlled substance inside a detention facility, with bond set at $35,000.

Moniteau County deputies also arrested a Clarksburg man suspecting possession of a controlled substance Saturday near Tipton.

Deputies had responded to a call regarding a suspicious vehicle at Manito Lake, just south of Tipton. While speaking with two subjects sleeping inside a truck, deputies observed marijuana in the vehicle and conducted a search, discovering both marijuana and methamphetamine.

The driver, Corey E. Wayne, 27, was taken to the Moniteau County Jail with bond set at $25,000.
