Small airplane crashes east of Fulton

Two of five passengers hurt, treated for minor injuries

A small plane crashed Saturday morning in Callaway County; the pilot and four other passengers all survived.

Officers arrived at the scene of the crash near the 6000 block of State Road O east of Fulton at 9:46 a.m. after reports around 9:30 a.m. said a plane was flying low and flew into the woods, the Callaway County Sheriff's Office said in a news release posted to Facebook. Two of the five passengers were treated for minor injures. The other three people on board the aircraft were unharmed.

The sheriff's office said an investigation is continuing, but it appears the plane experienced a mechanical failure while en route to Elton Hensley Memorial Airport in Fulton. The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing in a field near State Road O, but the airplane crashed into the woods.

Officers said the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been contacted, and further details will be released later.
