Police arrested a Jefferson City man Saturday night after he allegedly fired gunshots outside his residence and then initially refused to surrender.

Officers responded at 9:17 p.m. to reports of a domestic dispute and weapons offense in the 100 block of Havana Street. Police claim other occupants of the home fled unharmed and called 911 after the 42-year-old male suspect fired multiple shots into the air.

When officers arrived, they unsuccessfully attempted to contact the suspect, who initially refused to come out of the home. That's when SWAT and police negotiators took over at the scene. They eventually convinced the suspect to exit the house and give himself up peacefully.

He was transported to the Cole County Jail on suspicion of first-degree domestic assault and unlawful use of a weapon.
