A parade and celebrations Monday in honor of the Jay Baseball 2017 state championship-winning team will bring the team together with the 1989 Jay state champions.

Assistant coach J.R. Simmons said the majority of the 1989 team and its head coach, Tim Thompson, will be in the parade. The parade has eight entries - about 15 floats and trailers, he said.

The 2017 state champs will first be recognized Monday evening at Jefferson City Council's meeting before the team heads to the Boys & Girls Club of Jefferson City's "Cork Fork & Brews" event, said Mallory McGowin, Jefferson City Public Schools communications and marketing specialist.

The sixth annual "Cork Fork & Brews" has been combined with the grand opening celebration of the local Boys & Girls Club's new Railton Center at 1105 Lafayette St. While the fundraiser is sold out, the 4:30 p.m. grand opening is open to the public.

The Jay Baseball parade will start at 7:30 p.m. It will take the same route as the homecoming parade: begin alongside St. Peter's Church; travel east on High Street; turn left, to the north on Monroe Street; then on Capitol Avenue to conclude with a pep rally on the north side of the Capitol.

After the parade, there will be a private reception for former and current players and their families at The Millbottom.
