A sixth-grade student was removed from Lewis and Clark Middle School this morning after bringing a loaded gun to school.

Middle school staff received information about the gun and it was immediately confiscated.

Jefferson City Public Schools (JCPS) officials said in a news release that they are working closely with the city police and are "strictly following district policy and procedures."

No one was harmed or injured during the incident.

The school district's Twitter account posted at 10:25 a.m.: "Grade 6 student removed from LCMS after bringing loaded gun to school. Complete details emailed to families & staff. JCPD investigating."

Amy Berendzen, director of district School-Community Relations, said the email sent to families contained the same information as released to the media, and the district would not be releasing any additional details about the incident.
