According to police reports, just after 1 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of East Capitol Avenue for a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a number of persons in the residence along with the victim, Quonterio Davis, 23, of Jefferson City. Davis was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and due to the severity of those wounds was transported immediately to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Detectives were called to the scene to investigate, and able to determine that the suspect, Jeffrey Millens, 22, also of Jefferson City, was responsible for the shooting and fled the scene.

Officers obtained information he was in the area of Hawthorn Parkway and Linden Drive. Millens was located and taken into custody without incident.

Based on information obtained at the scene and from a variety of other sources, detectives placed Millens under arrest for second-degree murder and armed criminal action. As of Sunday evening, Millens was being held in the Cole County Jail awaiting the filing of formal charges.

The investigation is continuing, however, it is believed that both Davis and Millens were acquainted in some manner, but the extent of that relationship and possible motive is still under not clear, according to authorities.

According to court documents, Davis was charged in connection with a March 2016 shooting in the Capital City.

The Cole County Grand Jury indicted him on one count of hindering prosecution in that case.

A Jefferson City Police Department probable cause statement shows officers were called to St. Mary's Hospital after three males came in with gunshot wounds. Officers attempted to speak with the men, but they refused to give any information about what had happened to them.

A few days later, one of the victims contacted police saying he was in a parking lot in the 2400 block of Missouri Boulevard speaking with others. A dark vehicle approached him and the others. Davis was driving the vehicle while a passenger began to shoot at the victim and others.

When questioned, Davis admitted driving while a passenger was shooting out of the passenger-side window.

Davis further said he was unaware the passenger was armed or that he was going to shoot.

Davis had an extensive criminal history between Missouri and Tennessee.
