School board candidates report campaign finances

Jefferson City Public Schools Board of Education candidate Lori Massman is in the lead so far in terms of money raised among the candidates on the April 4 ballot, with $4,452.18 in total receipts.

Incumbent board vice president Steve Bruce is second with $3,840.95 in total receipts, and Victoria Sterling is third with $3,554.

Don Salcedo's "Salcedo for School Board" committee was created on Feb. 15. Charles Case is treasurer, and Joyce Preetorius is deputy treasurer.

Paul Graham's committee, "Paul Graham for School Board," had not yet filed any full disclosure reports with financial information this year, according to the Missouri Ethics Commission as of Friday. His committee though had electronically filed a "Committee Statement of Limited Activity" on Thursday night.

Current JCPS Board of Education President John Ruth has given $100 each to the committees for candidates Bruce and Massman.

Fellow board member Lorelei Schwartz has also given $100 to Massman's campaign committee. The accounting firm she works for, Schwartz & LeCure LLC also gave $100 to Bruce's and Hovis' committees.

Her biggest individual donors at $250 each were: Douglas and Tonya Willig, of Jefferson City; and Phillip and Amy Freeman of Jefferson City. The Willigs' professions are not listed. Phil Freeman is the funeral director for Freeman Mortuary, where Amy and their son Ryan also work.

Stephanie Johnson, director of the Boys & Girls Club, gave $200. Bruce and Ann Bax, of Jefferson City, gave $100; Ann Bax is the president of United Way of Central Missouri. Karen Enloe, executive director of the Jefferson City Public Schools Foundation, and her husband, Ken, gave $100.

The Central Bank PAC gave $150.

The biggest donor to Bruce's campaign is Sally Reid, of Jefferson City, with $265.95. Phil Freeman gave $250 to Bruce's campaign. Jefferson Bank PAC contributed $150.

Cary Gampher, principal architect of Architects Alliance - one of three firms attached to the district's two high school plan - contributed $100. Allen Randall, of the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce, gave $50, as did Heidi Lucas, of the Missouri Association of Nurses.

Sterling's committee has had three donors: University of Illinois professor George Collins has given a total of $430; Jefferson City retiree Ann Gaskin gave $300; and Dan Ortmeyer, Jefferson City service technician at Heubel Materials Handling, gave $250.

Hovis' biggest donor has been Michael C. Reid and Associates at $300. Accountant Cynthia Graves contributed $200. CLC Design LLC and John Kuebler, of Hendren Andrea LLC, each donated $150.

Lawyer Gaylin Carver, pilot Terry Rackers, retiree Hallie Gibbs and Riley Brothers LLC each gave $100.
