Jefferson City man killed in car crash

A Jefferson City man was killed Saturday morning after he was thrown from his car as it overturned along U.S. 50/63, at the Moreau River Bridge.

Police identified the victim as Joshua D. Harmon, 44.

Investigators said he was driving a 2004 Chrysler PT Cruiser westbound on U.S. 50/63, when his car hit the rear tire of an anhydrous ammonia trailer that was being towed by a westbound 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 pickup.

After the collision, Harmon's PT Cruiser ran off the right side of the highway, hitting a guardrail and overturning.

Police said Harmon was not using his seatbelt and was ejected from the car as it was rolling over.

The driver of the pickup, Christopher L. Berhorst, 38, of Westphalia, wasn't hurt.

The accident happened at about 8:15 a.m.

No chemicals were spilled in the accident, and the only damage to the trailer was to the rear wheel. Police said Saturday the traffic unit is continuing to investigate the crash.
