Officials with the HBA Home Show are hoping the large crowds they saw Friday will come out again today to the Capital Mall.

This is the first year the show is being held at the mall after 15 years at the Firley YMCA off Ellis Boulevard.

"I've heard the ease of finding parking is a big reason for people coming out today," Home Show Chairman Jeff Carr said on Friday afternoon. "We've got over 100 vendors here, and the vendors I've talked to have been very pleased with the interest of the people that have come by their booths. The crowds have been steady since we opened."

The show features businesses that can do most anything to improve your home, according to Carr, who said those who want to see everything being offered in one place can come to the mall's center court to the show's Super Booth.

"This shows the latest in things such as granite countertops, TVs, fireplaces, hot tubs and kitchen designs," Carr said.

Seminars feature experts in various fields on the topic of "Fix It or Nix It," whether you should try and save or go ahead and start from scratch.

Today, one of the more popular seminars will feature how to build birdhouses, which kids can get involved in. It's slated from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Dillards' wing of the mall.

"No matter if the economy is good or bad, there is still plenty of interest in what is new for homes," Carr said. "The weather gets nice, and people get in the mood to make improvements, no matter what the cost."

Today is the final day of the show, which runs 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
