A show that goes along with the mission statement of Lighthouse Preparatory Academy will be the next production from the school.

Godspell Jr., The Musical, will be performed at 7 p.m. March 2-4 with a matinee at 2 p.m. March 4.

The show features a group of disciples helping Jesus Christ tell different parables by using a wide variety of games, storytelling techniques and a hefty dose of comic timing. There's an eclectic blend of songs, ranging in style from pop to vaudeville, employed as the story of Jesus' life dances across the stage. Dissolving hauntingly into the Last Supper and the Crucifixion, the show features Jesus' messages of kindness, tolerance and love.

"We have a cast of 15 children from sixth to 12th grade," said Zoe Koelling, Lighthouse fine arts director. "Most I've had in prior musicals, so these kids are veteran performers."

Koelling, who is assisted by her husband, Bryce, and Lighthouse drama teacher Courtney LeCure, said this is basically an hour show, which is whittled down from the original Broadway musical.

"This is the second production we'll do in the school, so people can come and see what we're about," Koelling said.

The Lighthouse mission statement is to strengthen families by partnering with parents to develop witnesses for Christ through academic excellence and character development.

"This show is different because it is ministry based and that goes with the school's mission statement," Koelling said. "All the parables in Godspell talk about character development. This is a way for kids to do that in a real time way."

The Lighthouse Preparatory Academy is located at 216 El Mercado Drive.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at eventbrite.com.
