For the last four years, the Callaway Youth Expo has provided a venue for kids to show off their projects, according to Mike Musgrove, expo vice president.
"4-H, FFA, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts all get a chance to show off their projects," he said. "The community has been very supportive."
This year, the organization is the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award given at the Kingdom of Callaway Supper.
"It means a lot to all of us who have been involved with it. It's a big honor," he said. "For the board members, it's all about the kids."
Joe Holt, chairman of the Distinguished Service Award Committee, said the award is given to a deserving group or individual not previously recognized.
"We look for an individual or organization who have, during the past year (or longer), provided a service to a large number of inhabitants of the county," he said. "The Youth Expo has just been a tremendous program - providing a wholesome location for kids to show off their projects."
The next Youth Expo will be July 4-9 at the Lions Club Park in Auxvasse. Previous expos have featured livestock shows, a garden tractor pull, speech contests and dutch oven cooking, among a variety of other events.
The 112th Kingdom Supper will be March 7 at William Woods University. The supper's president, Roger Moser, has named as this year's guest of honor, educator Larry M. Doyle, a native Callawegian retiring in Mexico.
The recipient of the supper's 2017 Settler's Award is former coach and pastor Bobby Washington, who moved to Fulton in 198o, where he first became a teacher at the Missouri School for the Deaf.
The President's Reception will be from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Kemper Arts Center. The dinner will be at 7 p.m. at Tucker Dinning Hall, with the program following in Dulany Auditorium.
