Missing High Point teen, dog found safe

Moniteau County authorities on Monday located an injured High Point teenager who was reported missing Sunday night with her older black Labrador dog.

An active search for the 14-year-old girl began at 11 p.m., about an hour and a half after she was reported last seen walking down Fish Farm Road. The search, which eventually involved about 50 people, ended successfully when the girl and dog were found safely about 16 hours later.

According to Moniteau County Sheriff Tony Wheatley, the girl was suffering from hypothermia and an injury, possibly a broken leg. When located, the girl was in a creek on private land, bounded by Fish Farm Road on the east, Cedar Trail on the west, Prairie Hill on the south and Route C on the north.

The searchers included members of sheriff's departments from Moniteau and Morgan counties; police departments from Eldon, Jamestown and Tipton; the California City Fire Department, California Rural, Jamestown Fire, Moreau Fire and Fortuna Fire; a Missouri State Highway Patrol helicopter; Mid-Mo Ambulance; and several people from the area who just came to volunteer to join in the search.

According to Wheatley, the searchers conducted a "grid search," which resulted in her discovery by members of the Eldon Police Department.

Pastor Glenn Golden opened the High Point Baptist Church facility to be used as a command center for the searchers.
