Authorities have found what they believe are the skeletal remains of a Central Missouri man who hadn't been seen since a fire destroyed the house where he lived.

The Cole County Sheriff's Department reports the remains are apparently those of Glen Ford, 59, recovered Friday after an anthropologist and a team of eight others from the University of Missouri and Columbia College arrived at the site and started sifting through the debris.

In December, the sheriff's department had asked the public for help finding Ford, who had not been seen since a Nov. 14 fire destroyed his residence in Eugene. Authorities had thought there was no one home at the time of the blaze but were concerned about his whereabouts and well-being.

The fire was reported around 1:45 a.m. at 16316 Berry St., according to reports from the Cole County Fire Protection District. At the time, fire district officials listed the cause of the fire as "undetermined."

Friday's discovery was a collaborative effort by the sheriff's department, the fire district, Cole County Public Works, Cole County Emergency Management, Cole County First Responders, University of Missouri and Columbia College.
