Saturday accidents result in 2 fatalities

One New Bloomfield resident was killed and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday afternoon in Callaway County.

The Missouri Highway Patrol reported Ross L. Arntzen, 28, was driving east on Route Y, just east of County Road 365. Ryan W. Kirk, 23, was driving westbound on the same road.

The two struck headon, resulting in both trucks becoming fully engulfed in flames, the patrol said.

Kirk was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner. It was unknown whether he was wearing a seat belt.

Arntzen and passenger Brett L. Arntzen, 7, were wearing seat belts and were taken to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.

Camdenton resident Rubi A. Lauren, 26, was killed in a two-vehicle wreck Saturday afternoon in Camden County.

The patrol said at about 4:20 p.m., she was driving south on Route D, just north of Brush Arbor Road. A vehicle driven by Delilah R. Taylor, 42, crossed the center line and struck Lauren's vehicle head-on.

Lauren was wearing a seat belt.

Taylor was not wearing a seat belt and was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.

Centertown resident Lisa M. Thoenen, 40, suffered moderate injuries in a one-vehicle wreck Sunday morning in Cole County.

The patrol said she was eastbound on U.S. 50 at Big Horn Drive at about 10:55 a.m. when her vehicle began to skid on a wet road, traveling off the right side of the road and striking a guard rail.

Thoenen, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital by ambulance.
