Jefferson City man charged with drug trafficking

A Russellville man faces drug trafficking charges after his arrest last week.

Michael Benney was charged with second-degree drug trafficking, driving while revoked or suspended, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police stopped Benney on Wednesday morning along Lookout Trail after an officer familiar with him from prior law enforcement contacts noticed him. The officer knew he had a revoked license, which was verified via state records.

After his arrest and the discovery of more than $2,000 cash on his person, a search of the vehicle reportedly revealed a methamphetamine pipe, two bags containing the substance, and a digital scale in the back seat.
