Jefferson City police searching for potential kidnapper

Jefferson City police are looking for a man suspected of trying to kidnap a girl on her way to school Tuesday.

Police said the victim, who wasn't identified, was riding her bike to school when a man grabbed her and attempted to pull her into his four-door, bright red pickup.

Investigators said the girl got away, rode her bike to West Elementary School and reported the assault to officials there about 7:45 a.m.

Police said the assault occurred near the west intersection of Hayselton and Allen drives - just north of the Hayselton-Boonville Road "Y" intersection.

Police said they're looking for a white man in his mid-30s, with scruffy, brown hair and crooked teeth.

They said his pickup had step rails and a silver/chrome brush guard - and possibly a Missouri license plate.

Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Jefferson City Police Department at 573-634-6400 or CrimeStoppers at 573-659-TIPS.

Capt. Doug Shoemaker said Tuesday evening the investigation was continuing, with no additional details to report.
