Smoke was still in the air Wednesday after an electrical fire in the rear of Arris' Pizza, 117 W. High St. Firefighters remained on the scene for more than an hour as electricians from Stokes Electric and Ameren worked to restore power.

The Jefferson City Fire Department was called to a downtown restaurant Wednesday morning after an electrical fire started along an outside wall of the building.

Firefighters responded at about 7:40 a.m. to Arris' Pizza Palace, 117 W. High St., to extinguish the fire in outside electrical panels at the rear of the building. The restaurant was not open for business at the time.

After using fire extinguishers to douse the blaze, fire crews entered the building to investigate the extent of the fire. They determined flames had not extended into the interior of the building.

Ameren Missouri crews assisted with turning off power to the building. The business had no damage inside, but electrical service remained off while repairs are made.

A restaurant spokesman said the business would remain closed Wednesday as a result of the incident. No injuries were reported.
