Probation granted in thefts from K-Mart

A Jefferson City woman was placed on two years of unsupervised probation for pleading guilty to an amended charge for taking merchandise while working at the former K-Mart store on Missouri Boulevard.

Kayla Parks, 19, had been charged with one count of felony receiving stolen property, but that was amended to a misdemeanor.

Jefferson City police said Parks and three others took merchandise last December through various means, such as merchandise overriding, failing to run up purchases and taking items without paying for them.

As a group, the four took more than $4,400 from the business, police said.

Parks admitted to taking part in the thefts for about a month but stopped when "it was getting out of hand," police said. She took $764 in merchandise.
