JCPD begins Drive Sober campaign

The Jefferson City Police Department will be out in force as part of the annual nationwide Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign, which starts today and runs through Sept. 3.

Grant funding provided by the Missouri Department of Transportation, Division of Highway and Traffic Safety and the Missouri Safety Center pays for the officers to be out for this enforcement, according to a news release.

During 2016, 218 people died and 664 were seriously injured in Missouri crashes involving at least one impaired driver, according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That means approximately one impaired driving fatality occurs every 1 days, and one or two people every day are seriously injured in a crash involving at least one impaired driver.
