No serious injuries in 2 Jefferson City crashes Monday

Jefferson City police worked two injury accidents Monday afternoon.

The first crash occurred at 12:48 p.m. at West Edgewood Drive and Missouri 179, police reports show.

A vehicle driven by Deanne Riley, 51, of Stover, was traveling westbound on West Edgewood. She initially stopped, then drove into oncoming traffic as she approached the intersection with 179. Riley failed to stop for a red light, entered the intersection and was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on 179 driven by Melissa Rice, 37, of Holts Summit.

Riley was treated for moderate injuries, while Rice and her two passengers had no reported injuries. All involved were wearing seat belts.

The second crash occurred at 5:27 p.m. at Missouri 179 and U.S. 54. Authorities identified one driver as a 16-year-old girl from Jefferson City and the other driver as Keith Birge, 69, of Jefferson City.

The juvenile stated that she was traveling southbound on 179, and as she approached the ramp to eastbound 54 she saw she had a solid green light. She did not see Birge approaching. As she turned left to enter 54, the passenger side of the her vehicle was struck by the front of Birge's vehicle. The juvenile was taken to Capital Region Medical Center with minor injuries.

Birge stated that he was traveling northbound on 179, and as he crossed over 54 he saw he had a green light. While traveling through the intersection the juvenile turned into the path of Birge's vehicle. The front of his vehicle struck the passenger side of the juvenile's vehicle. Birge and his passenger, Dorthy Birge, 68, of Jefferson City, also were taken to Capital Region with minor injuries.
