Suspicious activity, stolen property keep deputies busy in Moniteau County

The Moniteau County sheriff's deputies investigated two unrelated reports of stolen property and suspicious activity at an area creek during the past few days.

On Thursday, deputies were notified of suspicious activity near Missouri 87 and Route F. While investigating, deputies located a U-Haul pickup that had some decals partially removed and that appeared to have been tampered with. They later found a U-Haul trailer parked near U.S. 50 and Business 50.

Officials with the Jefferson City U-Haul office confirmed they were missing a truck and the trailer was missing from an Apache Flats store. Both were returned to the rental company.

On Sunday, deputies located and recovered a camper in California reported stolen from Holts Summit. A suspect in the theft has been identified and remains at large, authorities said.

On Monday, deputies were called to Union Ford Road on a report of suspicious activity at a creek. Four subjects were found at the creek; deputies did locate methamphetamine on one the subjects, Clayton R. Pace, who attempted to the destroy the evidence. He was taken into custody.
