New hours for Wood Place public library

The Wood Place Library in California has new hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The change took effect July 24. The library had been open from 3-7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Now, the library will be open from 2-6 p.m. instead.

The library's hours for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are still 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The library is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Library Director Connie Walker said the decision to change the hours was to make the library more accessible to the community.

"With the heat, a lot of people don't want to get out in the hottest part of the day, and I know that there are people that need to come in after 5 if they work downtown," Walker said. "So we are trying to accommodate everyone just being open 20 hours a week."

The library re-opened with limited hours in May after it closed March 1 following a judge's ruling that the Moniteau County Library District had not been created legally.

The change in hours will benefit the library's other services, including use of Wi-Fi. That is good news for the 323 people who used the library-provided Wi-Fi in June.

Walker said the new hours will be useful for when school starts and children need to go to the library. The library will monitor how many people come and go to the library, during the new hours, to see how effective the change is.

Correction: The original version of this article incorrectly listed Saturday hours for the library. The text above has been corrected to reflect the library is closed on Saturdays.
