Historical Society to host fashion show, annual luncheon

'Timeless elegance' and tea sets

"Timeless Elegance" will be the theme of the Cole County Historical Society's 2017 annual fashion show and luncheon May 8.

This year's event will feature a walkway fashion show so all attendants can get a good look at the clothing, provided by Saffees.

Missouri first lady Sheena Greitens' inaugural gown will be on display.

Viewing of the silent auction's various items will kick off the event at 10:30 a.m. The luncheon and fashion show will last from 11:30 a.m. until about 1 p.m. The event will be held at the Capitol Plaza Hotel for the second year.

Vicki Myers and Saffees owner Judy Howard co-host the event. While antique cookie jars were offered during last year's live auction, Myers said assorted teapots and full tea sets will be sold this year under the timeless elegance theme.

The live auction items range from "Looney Tunes" teapot featuring Sylvester the Cat and Tweety Bird to a full floral tea set complete with china plates. Live auction items will be displayed on a large screen throughout the show, since it would be more difficult for models to carry the items around to tables as in last year's event.

Also new to this year's event, former Cole County Historical Society Vice President Lorraine Adkins will be posthumously honored, and 100 teddy bears will be offered to all ages in exchange for a freewill offering.

The deadline to purchase tickets is Monday. Tickets can be purchased for $35 each at Saffees, 227 E. High St.; the museum office, 109 Madison St.; and by phone at 573-635-1850.
