A Jefferson City man was placed on two years of unsupervised probation for pleading guilty to charges in connection with thefts from vehicles last year.
Alex Mayol, 23, pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering the welfare of a child and one count of receiving stolen property, all misdemeanors. A charge of felony stealing was dismissed.
Mayol and two juveniles under age 17 were seen standing by a parked vehicle in the 1100 block of East Atchison Street in June, according to Jefferson City police. When residents stepped out to confront them, the group fled the area on foot.
They were located a short time later and positively identified in the 700 block of Walsh Street.
Officers searched the three and found they were in possession of a stolen purse with a checkbook, multiple knives, lighters, pocket change and five containers of chewing tobacco.
Mayol was wearing a black sweater and had a pair of white gloves. He also had a flashlight in his pocket.
Mayol falsely claimed the purse belonged to one of the juveniles' parents. One of the juveniles later admitted they were stealing from vehicles in the area of East Atchison.
The recovered property belonged to multiple victims in the East Atchison/Harding streets neighborhood.
Mayol had an active municipal warrant at the time of his arrest.
