Mid-Mo man gets probation for assault

A man from Auxvasse was placed on five years of supervised probation for pleading guilty to a second-degree assault charge in connection with an August drug deal that ended in an assault in Jefferson City.

Alex Walker, 19, had been charged with first-degree assault, but that was amended. A charge of armed criminal action against him was dismissed.

The incident occurred in the 300 block of Mesa Drive, according to the Jefferson City Police Department.

A witness said as a man exited a vehicle, someone shot at him two or three times. Two spent 9mm shell casings were found in the road.

The male victim told police he and a friend had arranged to meet with a female juvenile to purchase marijuana-based cookies. During the meeting, the girl was accompanied by Walker and another man in Walker's vehicle.

After a disagreement regarding the quantity of cookies, the victim said he fled the area with the cookies and without paying. He said the three chased him until they got to the 500 block of Madison Street, where Walker threatened to shoot the vehicle.

The victim said he and his male passenger left in their vehicle. Walker continued to chase them.

When they got to Mesa, the victim said he got out of his vehicle, ran into some woods and heard two gunshots he thought were aimed at him.

Walker admitted driving the vehicle, getting out of the vehicle and approaching the victim on Madison.

When the victim fled again, Walker admitted the trio chased him.

When the victim got out of his vehicle on Mesa, Walker said, one of his partners fired a handgun twice at the victim before all three drove back to Auxvasse.
