Grants available to help pay medical costs

Missouri families facing medical costs for a child may be eligible for up to $5,000 in grant money through the UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation.

"This is an opportunity for financial relief for families who need help offsetting their children's medical costs," said Garrett Kasper, regional media contact at UnitedHealthcare.

Since 2013, UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation has awarded more 200 grants to families in Missouri.

Kasper said the grants are not just for UnitedHealthcare members; anyone who is eligible can apply.

Applicants must be 16 years of age or younger, be covered by a commercial health insurance plan and meet the economic guidelines based on family size and gross income.

Recipients of Medicaid, Medicare, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or any another state or federally subsidized health insurance are not eligible.

Grants are available for medical expenses families have incurred 60 days before the date of application as well as for ongoing and future medical needs.

Families can apply at www.UHCCF.org.
